Childminders and work with disabled children

Trio Childcare Connections is pleased to offer a new scheme in Swindon aimed at developing quality childminding to be a real choice for families with disabled children. The scheme is aimed at childminders and potential childminders who have experience of working with disabled children or want to develop their training and experience.

The purpose of the scheme is to develop a body of childminders to support working parents who have disabled children. The training and support that new and existing childminders will receive will give

• the childminders more confidence and skill to offer services to disabled children
• the parents more confidence to use childminding services

For some the new scheme will mean building on existing skills and experience with a view to joining the Swindon Childminding Opportunity Network. For others it will mean joining the scheme to develop experience of working with families with disabled children without wanting to meet the additional network criteria.

Trio Childcare Connections is looking for registered childminders who are interested in or are already looking after disabled children, and also people who are interested in training to become a registered childminder with a goal of looking after disabled children.

We are particularly keen to work with people who:

• have experience in caring for disabled children and young people
• are able to offer childcare services for disabled children under five
• are able to offer out of school childcare services (breakfast, after school and holiday care) for disabled children up to the age of sixteen
• are enthusiastic, caring and committed

• the opportunity to gain the skills and experience that could give a family with a disabled child the confidence and reassurance to use a childminding service.
