Highway Regulation - Permanent Traffic Regulations

See also: list of current Permanent Traffic Regulations

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is a legal order that is required to restrict or prohibit an activity on the highway. This includes speed limits, parking restrictions and prohibition of driving.

Notification of Proposals

A Public Notice is placed on-site and advertised in a local newspaper (the Swindon Advertiser), with full details at the One Stop Shop at Wat Tyler House and on this website.

Consultation

When a permanent TRO is proposed the Swindon Borough Council is required to consult the general public and statutory bodies.

Any objections or representations to the proposal have to be made within 21 days. Council officers will contact any objectors and if appropriate take the objections to be considered and resolved by councillors. Under certain circumstances a public enquiry is held.

Notification of the Making of the Order

The Order is sealed and a second set of Public Notices and information issued as before including the date when the Order will come into operation.

Any necessary signage and road markings will be introduced before the Order comes into force.
